Pastor: Rev Guilherme Andrino, SVD
43 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701
HISTORY OF ST. MARY OF THE LAKE CHURCH
St. Mary of the Lake Church is a Roman Catholic Church, constructed on the site where the congregation was founded in 1889. The new cathedral features a Spanish-style bell tower and ornate details throughout the interior and exterior of the building.
The Reverend Thomas B. Healy formed the first Catholic congregation in Lakewood in 1889. In 1890, a frame chapel was erected on the south side of Second Street, later to be moved to Madison Avenue. When that church needed to expand, the little, historic chapel was moved to the grounds of Georgian Court College.
Over the century, the small group blossomed into many diverse communities of variety of different cultures. St Mary of the Lake Church merged with St Anthony Claret and Holy Family Church to become Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Father Guilherme A. Andrino SVD serves as the pastor accompanied by the Divine Word Missionary Fathers Pedro L Bou, Father Jun C Pateno and Father Jan Pastuszczak.

Pastor: Rev Guilherme Andrino, SVD
1139 East County Line Road, Lakewood, NJ 08701
HISTORY OF THE HOLY FAMILY CHURCH
The newest chapter in the long history of Lakewood’s Catholic community unfolded on Oct. 24, 2021 when hundreds gathered with Bishop David O’Connell in Holy Family Church for a mass inaugurating Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and the installation of its pastor, Divine Word Father Guilherme A. Andrino.
The parish has at least 30 different traditions and cultures, young and elderly people alike. Mass is celebrated in three languages – English, Spanish and Polish at three worship sites: St Mary of the Lake, St Anthony Claret and Holy Family. Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish under the care and leadership of the Divine Word Missionaries listed 4,486 families on its rolls.
Outlining the scope of this large family are eight different communities, a hospital and a cemetery. A total of 699 children and adults are registered in the parish’s thriving religious education coordinated by some 60 volunteer catechists and assistants. According to Fr Andrino, he said, “when you look at the number of kids, you see the parish is alive for many years to come. We are working to keep the heart of faith warm. We want everyone to feel at home and work together as family. This is the face of the Church. If we don’t see the church as family, we don’t understand Jesus.”

11:00 AM – SAINT LUKE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Pastor: Rev Michael Kennedy
1674 Old Freehold Road, Toms River, NJ 08755
HISTORY OF ST. LUKE CHURCH
In 1982, the Township of Dover (Toms River Township) had two Catholic parishes: St. Joseph, that had served the community for over 100 years, and St. Justin Martyr, which was established in 1972. The Toms River area was growing so rapidly, that the Most Reverend John Reiss, Bishop of Trenton, determined it necessary to establish a new parish to serve the faithful. St. Luke Parish was founded on October 1, 1982 with the Reverend Louis W. Kralovich as its founding pastor.
In the beginning, St. Luke Parish was truly a pilgrim parish, celebrating Mass in the local schools, firehouse and VFW hall. Construction of the beautiful church began in October 1995. Designed by Martin DeSaapio, the Church was dedicated by the Most Reverend John M. Smith, Bishop of Trenton, on October 18, 1997. St. Luke was the first parish Bishop Smith dedicated in the Diocese of Trenton.
In April 2006, St. Luke was blessed with the arrival of Augustinian Fr. Robert S. Grodnicki. New to the Diocese of Trenton and the parish, Fr. Bob did not remain a stranger for long. With the retirement of founding pastor, Rev. Louis W. Kralovich in 2009, Bishop Smith named Fr. Bob Grodnicki (now incardinated into the Diocese) the Second Pastor of St. Luke. From his installation as Pastor in August 2009, Fr. Bob has shepherded this flock with compassion and understanding and continues to build upon the solid foundation established by Fr. Lou. Under Fr. Bob’s guidance, St. Luke has continued to grow in all ways possible – in membership, expanding ministries, and as a social, charitable and healing center of the community.
In November 2011, St. Luke embarked upon “Lighting the Path.” This capital campaign, the third in the Parish’s history, was designed to address the faith formation, social outreach and administrative needs of a growing, vibrant parish. Today St Luke is led by Fr Michael Kennedy, a very joyful priest and a welcoming pastor for all.

1:00 PM – SAINT JUSTIN THE MARTYR ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Pastor: Rev Mark A Kreder
975 Fischer Boulevard, Toms River, 08753
HISTORY OF ST JUSTIN THE MARTYR CHURCH
On November 10, 1972, Bishop George W. Ahr established Saint Justin’s Parish. The Bishop appointed Rev. George E. Deutsch to serve as pastor of this new community. Armed with much faith and confidence in the Lord, Father Deutsch began to gather the community at the East Dover First Aid Building, and at various homes for services and education. Initially, our new parish numbered some 1,070 Catholic families. The numbers and the exuberance of this new parish community immediately underscored the inadequacy of the makeshift accommodations. Father Deutsch sought the Diocese’s approval to build on a 10 acre parcel of land on Fischer Boulevard adjoining Cattus Island Park.
The new church, with a seating capacity of 600, was completed in October 1974, and it was consecrated by the Bishop on November 2, 1974. The first regular mass was celebrated in the new church on December 19, 1974. By January 1987 the parish was up to 3,500 families, and at times, held as many as thirteen Masses on the weekend (8 in the Church, and 5 in the Hall.)
On May 1, 2006, Rev. Mark A. Kreder was named Administrator of our parish, and on November 18, 2007, was installed as the Third Pastor of St. Justin the Martyr Parish. Father Mark was ordained on May 17, 2003. Under Father Mark’s guidance and leadership much welcomed renovations and updating took place. A new Baptismal area was created to the left of the Sanctuary in the fall of 2013. In keeping with present church guideline, The Resurrected Christ, which adorned our altar, was given a prominent place of honor, with an artistic backdrop, above the doors to the Narthex. This serves as a visual reminder of taking God’s love and mercy with us as we exit the church. As you look at the window, which is a scene from the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) the image of the repentant sinner leaning against his father’s breast and the old father bending over his son, represents a symbol of all homecomings, of the darkness of human existence illuminated by tenderness and of weary and sinful mankind taking refuge in the shelter of God’s mercy. This is the grace and mercy we receive in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In March 2018 the Evangelist Door was completed, utilizing an existing doorway. This door features plaques dedicated to the four Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
Saint Justin’s Parish serves as the focal point for the spiritual, social, and recreational needs of it’s now 4,500 plus families, with over 19 different parish ministries serving and enhancing all aspects of parish life. The number and variety of parish organizations, activities, and people that make up Saint Justin’s Parish have turned it into a vibrant center for the lives and the affairs of the parishioners and the community.

2:00 PM – SAINT JOSEPH’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Pastor: Rev G Scott Shaffer
685 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, NJ 08753
HISTORY OF ST JOSEPH CHURCH
The Catholic Community of St. Joseph’s can trace its origins back to the 1870s when a few people gathered for Mass in private homes celebrated by priests from other areas. The number of Catholics increased over the years and the parish was formally incorporated on October 30, 1883. The first Catholic Church in Toms River, a small wooden frame building, eighteen by twenty-four feet with four leaded glass windows, served the people from 1882 until 1904. It was then that a larger church was built and, in 1909, a rectory was added to the site on Hooper Avenue, south of Washington Street.
St. Joseph’s Parish continued to grow and flourish, and in 1932 a social hall was erected behind the church. This was later renovated to house the first school, which graduated its first class of seven students in 1934. Father George A. Welsh, pastor from 1926 to 1949, not only founded the school, but also had the foresight to see the need for expansion. Father Welsh purchased the tract of land that now houses our present campus.
With the arrival of Father Lawrence W. Donovan in 1949, another era began. The school-church building was completed in 1952. Continued growth resulted in another classroom building and Holy Family Hall, both of which opened in 1959. History was made again when in 1963 St. Joseph’s parish dedicated the first and only Catholic High School in Ocean County. Under the direction and guidance of Monsignor Casimir H. Ladzinski, the pastor from 1987 to 1996, the present 1,200 seat church, was planned and built, culminating with John C. Reiss, Bishop of Trenton, dedicating and blessing it on January 9, 1993. Monsignor Sean P. Flynn served the parish as pastor from 1996 to 2008. Father John P. Bambrick was pastor from 2008 to 2012. Father G. Scott Shaffer arrived July 2012 and currently serves as our pastor.
St. Joseph’s Parish once encompassed a very large geographical area including all of Toms River, parts of Manchester Twp., Beachwood and Bayville. Over the years, several new parishes were carved from St. Joseph’s: St. Barnabas, Bayville (1966); St. John, Lakehurst (1969); St. Justin, Toms River (1972); St. Luke, Toms River (1982); St. Maximilian Kolbe (1985).

PRAYERS
FEAST OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES
On December 8, 1854, Pope Pius IX proclaimed the dogma of the Immaculate Conception through the apostolic constitution Ineffabilis Deus. A little more than three years later, on February 11, 1858, a young lady appeared to Bernadette Soubirous at the grotto of Massabielle and began a series of visions. During the apparition on March 25, the lady identified herself with the words: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Bernadette was a sickly child of poor parents and their practice of the Catholic faith was scarcely more than lukewarm. Bernadette could pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Creed. She also knew the prayer of the Miraculous Medal: “O Mary conceived without sin.”
During the interrogations, Bernadette gave an account of what she saw. It was “something white in the shape of a girl.” She used the word aquero, a dialect term meaning “this thing.” It was “a pretty young girl with a rosary over her arm” and her white robe was encircled by a blue girdle. She wore a white veil, there was a yellow rose on each foot, and a rosary was in her hand. The humble virgin appeared before a humble girl and treated her with dignity. Through that humble girl, Mary revitalized and continues to revitalize the faith of millions of people. People began to flock to Lourdes from other parts of France and from all over the world. In 1862, Church authorities confirmed the authenticity of the apparitions and the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes was established in 1907.
February 11, the Feast of our Lady of Lourdes which is also known as the World Day of the Sick, serves the purpose of reminding the members of the Church of the Marian apparitions at Lourdes and of healing ministry of the Church. It reminds us of our Christian obligation to attend to the sick and the suffering who are all around us. This day has been set aside in show our gratitude to all those who are model after Jesus, the caregivers, the doctors, the nurses the health care workers, the pastoral ministers, all those who are striving to restore the physical and spiritual health of the sick.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SEVEN CHURCHES
The tradition of visiting seven pilgrim churches was started by Philip Neri around 1553 in order to combine conviviality and the sharing of a common religious experience through discovering of the heritage of the early Saints. Neri drew up an itinerary that included visits to St. Peter’s Basilica, then St. Paul Outside-the-Walls, St. Sebastian’s, St. John Lateran, Holy Cross-in-Jerusalem, St. Lawrence-Outside-the Walls and finally St. Mary Major. He and a few friends and acquaintances would gather before dawn and set out on their walk. At each church, there would be prayer, hymn singing and a brief sermon by Neri.1
Simple meals of eggs, cheese, bread, fruit and wine were pre-arranged and shared abundantly. During these events – true to Philip’s aesthetic – musicians would play and singers would perform. There was to be fun during these spiritual pilgrimages because Philip understood how well people responded to God when they were surrounded by the elevating company of affectionate, happy human beings. These pilgrimages were designed to be a counterpoint to the raucous behavior of the Carnivale.
MFC CORE VALUES
Our Core Values describe who we are and what we are called to do in the world. They provide parameters and constant guideposts in our moving on in our life and mission
- Centered on Christ
In everything that we are and do, we look to Jesus, who is our Savior and Lord. Jesus is our model in obedience to the Father, in our faithfulness to His call, and to total submission to His divine will. And as He who called us is holy, we ourselves will strive for holiness of life (1 Pt 1:15-16), and look to exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit in our day-to-day (Gal 5:22-23). - Evangelistic and Missionary
We are called to proclaim the good news of Jesus to the whole world (Mk 16:15). We are his witnesses (Lk 24:48). Every MFC member is an evangelizer, in the day-to-day environments of our lives. We look to doing mission beyond our own environments to the very ends of the earth. - Focused on the Family
Our life and mission is founded on strong families in Christ. We recognize that the future of humanity passes by way of the family. We defense and strengthen Christian marriage, we raise our children to be the next generation of God’s people, and we establish our homes as pieces of Kingdom ground. In our defense of the family, we are called to a strong advocacy and defense of the culture of life. - Being Community
We are part of the larger family of MFC, a global family of many different nationalities and cultures but all sharing brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ. We desire to move forward together in our life in the Lord, providing love, affirmation, friendship, support and healing. We are committed to the good of our brethren, always living the truth in love (Eph 4:15). - Living a Preferential Option for the Poor
We recognize Jesus’ mission to bring glad tidings to the poor (Lk 4:18). We look to both the spiritual and material upliftment of the least among our brethren. In doing so, we will be in solidarity with the poor by striving to live a simple lifestyle, to share our resources, and to fight for the social justice in the world. - Exercising Servant Leadership
We are privileged to serve God and His people, both in and out of MFC. We serve with the mind and heart of Jesus, who come to serve and not to be served (Mt20:28). Leaders are to serve with humility, self-sacrifice and submissions to the Chief Shepherd, to whom we will render an account (Hb 13:17). He who wishes to be great shall be the least of all (Mt 20:26-27). - Being Servant to the Catholic Church
We, in MFC, are an integral part of the Catholic Church. We are submitted to our bishops and to the Pope. Our life, formation and service will conform to Catholic values and ideals. We make ourselves available to be of service in the parishes and dioceses, especially in the areas of family and life. We look to Mary, the Mother of Church, as our inspiration and help.
PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF LOURDES
Oh ever immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy, Health of the Sick, Refuge of Sinners, Comfortess of the Afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings. Look upon me with mercy. When you appeared in the grotto of Lourdes, you made it a privileged sanctuary where you dispense your favors, and where many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. My loving Mother, obtain my request. I will try to imitate your virtues so that I may one day share your company and bless you in eternity. Amen.
PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
COMMUNITY PRAYER 2025
Almighty and ever-faithful Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the hope You have planted in us. You are the source of all hope, the reason we rejoice, and the anchor that keeps us steadfast amidst trials. Teach us to trust in Your divine providence and to see Your hand working in all things.
Lord Jesus Christ, You are our eternal hope. Through Your passion, death, and resurrection, You have shown us that no suffering is without purpose and no darkness is beyond Your redeeming light. As we rejoice in hope, help us to endure afflictions with faith and to persevere in prayer, trusting that You will never leave or forsake us.
Holy Spirit, You are the fire that ignites our hearts with courage and zeal. Empower us as we respond to the mission of New Evangelization, proclaiming the Good News with boldness and compassion. Strengthen us to bring hope to families, communities, and the world, especially those who have yet to encounter Christ. Guide us in renewing the face of the earth, as missionary disciples committed to defending faith, family, and life.
Mother Mary, our model of unwavering hope, you remained steadfast in faith even at the foot of the Cross. Teach us to trust as you trusted, to love as you loved, and to cling to Jesus in all circumstances. Lead us closer to Him, and may we learn from your example to rejoice, endure, and persevere.
O Most Holy Trinity, You are our unshakable refuge. In You, hope abounds, and we find the strength to live as Missionary Families of Christ, faithful to Your mission and joyful in service. We entrust this year to You, confident in Your unfailing love and guidance, now and forever. Amen.

THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES
Apostles Creed…
Our Father….
3 Hail Mary….
Glory Be….
THE FIRST JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE ANNUNCIATION
The Annunciation is a symbol of humility, of submission to the will of God. Here, Mary receives the message from the angel that She will bear the Redeemer of the world. Mary’s faith, Her submission becomes our model. She asks for our submission to God as well.
Prayer Intention: Our Lady would want us to pray for humility, for submission to God’s will. Let us offer this first decade of the rosary, in reparation for all who revolt against God’s will, against the call of their own conscience. Let us pray especially for the Church, for all bishops, priests and all those in religious life, that they might serve God with humility and imitate Mary, the “Model of the Church, the Mother of the Church.” Our Father….
- The Angel Gabriel was sent from God….to a Virgin betrothed to a man, named Joseph, of the House of David. The Virgin’s name was Mary.(Lk 1:26) — Hail Mary…

- The angel said to Her: Do not fear, Mary. You have found favor with God.(Lk 1:30) — Hail Mary…
- You shall conceive and bear a Son and give Him the name of Jesus.(Lk 1:31) — Hail Mary…

- The holy offspring to be born will be called Son of God.(Lk 1: 35) — Hail Mary…
- Mary said: I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be done to Me as you say. With that the angel left Her.(Lk 1:38) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE SECOND JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE VISITATION
Mary came to Elizabeth, to visit with Her relative. She came with a stirring message concerning the nearness of Our Saviour. The Incarnation of the Word was upon us. Listen to Mary’s prayer of praise to God, “The Magnificat.”
Prayer Intention: Let us pray this decade in thanksgiving; in thanks to God for coming to us through Mary – for greater recognition of Her role, Her acceptance of God’s will. Our Father…
- Mary set out, proceeding in haste into the hill country to a town of Judah, where She entered Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. (Lk 1:39-40) — Hail Mary…
- When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. (Lk 1:41) — Hail Mary…

- For He has looked upon His servant in Her lowliness; all ages to come shall call me blessed. (Lk 1:48) — Hail Mary…
- God who is mighty has done great things for Me, holy is His name. (Lk 1: 49) — Hail Mary…
- His mercy is from age to age on those who fear Him. (Lk 1: 50) — Hail Mary…
- Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then returned home. (Lk 1: 56) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE THIRD JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE NATIVITY
He is with us. The word was made flesh and now Jesus Christ is with us. What impact does that have on us today? He came not as a King, or a ruler but as a poor infant, born in a manger, accompanied by shepherds. And to such humble beginnings, every knee must bend; what gifts do we bring? He is still with us in all things, in all lives, the Prince of Peace. What gifts do we give? Bring joy, bring love and praise. Give you heart. Give your trust as Joseph did.
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for families, for guidance and grace to imitate the Holy Family. Let us pray for all parents and all those who care for the young. Let us pray especially for the gift of life, and all those who cherish it; for parents that they will lead their children closer to God. Let us pray for the unborn and in reparation for those who rob the unborn of the gift of life. Our Father…..
- Suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream, and said to him: Joseph, son of David, have no fear… It is by the Holy Spirit that She has conceived this Child. (Mt 1:20) — Hail Mary…
- She is to have a Son and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins. (Mt 1:21) — Hail Mary…
- All this happened to fulfill what the Lord has said through the prophet: The Virgin shall be with Child and give birth to a Son, and they shall call Him Emmanuel, a name which means ‘God is with us.’ (Mt 1:22-24) — Hail Mary…
- In those days Caesar Augustus published a decree ordering a census of the whole world. And so Joseph went to Judea, to David’s town of Bethlehem – because he was of the house of David – to register with Mary, his espoused wife, who was with Child. (Lk2:1)(Lk 2:4-5) — Hail Mary…
- While they were there the days of Her confinement were completed. She gave birth to Her first-born Son and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger. (Lk 2:4-5) — Hail Mary…
- There were shepherds in that region, living in the fields and keeping night watch ….over their flocks. (Lk 2:8) — Hail Mary…
- The angel of the Lord appeared to them and they were very much afraid. The angel said to them: You have nothing to fear. (Lk 2:9-10) — Hail Mary…
- I come to proclaim good news to you – tidings of great joy. This day in David’s city a Saviour has been born to you, the Messiah and Lord. (Lk 2:10-11) — Hail Mary…
- Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying: Glory to God in high heaven, peace on earth to those on whom His favor rests. (Lk 2:13-14) — Hail Mary…
- They went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Baby lying in the manger; once they saw, they understood what had been told them concerning this Child. (Lk 2:16-17) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE FOURTH JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE PRESENTATION
Mary and Joseph, in compliance with the laws of their land, brought the infant Jesus to the temple for consecration to God the Father. She is still presenting Him to us, every day. Offering Her Son every day to us, through the Mass, through His graces, His blessings. She also attempts to present us to God every day; to dress us in holiness, goodness, obedience and humility for presentation to Her Son.
Prayer Intention: Let us pray this decade for Mary’s intentions. That all of Her children may accept Her role as intercessor in preparing us to be worthy of presentation to Her son, Our Savior. Our Father….

THE FIFTH JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE FINDING OF JESUS IN THE TEMPLE
Mary and Joseph searched in sorrow for three days before they experienced the joy of finding Jesus. She is still searching today for all of Her lost children. Do we see in this even, an example of the constant need to search for the lost?
Prayer Intention: Let us offer this decade for conversion. For all those who have wandered away from God; for those who have lost their faith; for those who give their life to the false gods of the world, money, materialism, and pleasure. Our Father…

THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES
THE FIRST LUMINOUS MYSTERY: HIS THE BAPTISM IN THE JORDAN
The Baptism in Jordan is the first of all mystery of light. Here, as Christ descends into the water, the Innocent One who became “sin” for our sake (cf 2Cor 5:21), the heaven opens wide and the voice of the Father declares Him the beloved Son (Mt 3:17), while the Spirit descends on Him to invest Him with the mission he will carry out.” (Rasarium Virginis Mariae, 21). The Lord Jesus came to each of us in our baptism. When you were baptized, the Holy Spirit descended upon you, and the Father said: “This is my beloved child, in whom I am well pleased.” This you became the light of Christ to shine in the world. You have been invested in the mission of this light.
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for all people to receive the grace to be open to the Holy Spirit to guide us to be introduced into the life of Christ. Our Father….
- In those days came John the Baptist/preaching in the wilderness of Judea. (Mt 3:1) — Hail Mary…
- I baptize you with water for repentance/but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. (Mt 3:11) — Hail Mary…
- He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. (Mt 3:11) — Hail Mary…
- Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John to be baptized by him. (Mt 3:13) — Hail Mary…
- John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, do you come to me?” (Mt 3:14) — Hail Mary…
- But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now.” (Mt 3:15) — Hail Mary…
- For thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. (Mt 3:15) — Hail Mary…
- And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened. (Mt 3:16) — Hail Mary…
- And he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him. (Mt 3:16) — Hail Mary…
- And lo, a voice from heaven saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Mt 3:17) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE SECOND LUMINOUS MYSTERY: HIS SELF-MANIFESTATION AT THE WEDDING OF CANA
Another mystery of light is the first of the signs, given at Cana (Jn 2:1-12). When Christ changes water into wine and opens the hearts of the disciples to faith, thanks to the intervention of Mary, the first among believers. (Rosarium Virginis Mariae, 21) We glow brighter with light of Christ when we obey the instructions he gives us. Even when the task doesn’t make sense, if we “do whatever he tells us,” He reveals His glory in us and through us.
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for the faithful to bring all the necessities no matter how small they seem and ask for the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. —Our Father…
- On the third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.(Jn 2:1) — Hail Mary…
- Jesus also was invited to the marriage, with his disciples.(Jn 2:2) — Hail Mary…

- His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you”(Jn 2:5) — Hail Mary…
- Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. (Jn 2:7) — Hail Mary…
- He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the steward of the feast.” (Jn 2:8) — Hail Mary…
- The steward of the feast tasted the water now become wine and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew) (Jn 2:9) — Hail Mary…
- The steward of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first…but you have kept the good wine until now”(Jn 2:9-10) — Hail Mary…
- This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana, in Galilee, and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him. (Jn 2:11) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE THIRD LUMINOUS MYSTERY: HIS PROCLAMATION OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD WITH HIS CALL TO CONVERSION
Jesus proclaims the coming of the Kingdom of God, calls to conversion (cf. Mk 1:15) and forgives the sins of all who draw near to him in humble trust (cf. Mk 2:3-13; Lk 7:47- 48): the inauguration of that ministry of mercy which he continues to exercise until the end of the world, particularly through the Sacrament of Reconciliation which he has entrusted to his Church (cf. Jn 20:22-23)
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for the Holy Spirit to come upon us and bring us to true repentance and rust in the Mercy of God as seekers of His Kingdom in our lives. –Our Father……
- Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of God and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel. (Mk 1:14-15) — Hail Mary…

- A woman of the city who was a sinner brought an alabaster flask of ointment and weeping, she began to anoint his feet with her tears and… then with the ointment. (Lk 7:37-38) — Hail Mary…
- “Therefore, I tell you, her sins which are many are forgiven”…and he said to her “your sins are forgiven.” (Lk 7: 47) — Hail Mary…
- Jesus came and stood among them and said to them “Peace be with you.” (Jn 20:19-20) — Hail Mary…
- When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Jesus said to them again “Peace be with you.” (Jn 20:20-21) — Hail Mary…
- “As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” (Jn 20:22) — Hail Mary…
- And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them “Receive the Holy Spirit”(Jn 20:22) — Hail Mary…
- “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven, if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” (Jn20:23) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE FOURTH LUMINOUS MYSTERY: HIS TRANSFIGURATION
The mystery of light par excellence is the Transfiguration, traditionally believed to have taken place on Mount Tabor. The glory of the Godhead shines forth from the face of Christ as the Father commands the astonished Apostles to “listen to him” (cf. Lk 9:35 and parallels) and to prepare to experience with him the agony of the Passion, so as to come with him to the joy of the Resurrection and a life transfigured by the Holy Spirit. (Rosarium Virginis Mariae, 21.) “And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun” (Mt 17:2). The Gospel scene of Christ’s transfiguration, in which the three Apostles Peter, James and John appear entranced by the beauty of the Redeemer, can be seen as an icon of Christian contemplation. To look upon the face of Christ, to recognize its mystery amid the daily events and the sufferings of his human life, and then to grasp the divine splendor definitively revealed in the Risen Lord, seated in glory at the right hand of the Father: this is the task of every follower of Christ and therefore the task of each one of us. In contemplating Christ’s face we become open to receiving the mystery of Trinitarian life, experiencing ever anew the love of the Father and delighting in the joy of the Holy Spirit. Saint Paul’s words can then be applied to us: “Beholding the glory of the Lord, we are being changed into his likeness, from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2Cor 3:18).
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for the grace of the light of God present to illuminate our hearts. The Father exclaimed, “Listen to Him.” —Our Father……
- Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart. (Mt 17:1) — Hail Mary…
- And as he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered. (Lk 9: 29) — Hail Mary…
- And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. (Mt 17:2) — Hail Mary…
- And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. (Mt 17:3) — Hail Mary…
- And Peter said to Jesus, “lord, it is your will that we are here, if you wish, I will make three booths here; one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (Mt 17:4) — Hail Mary…
- He was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them. (Mt 17:5) — Hail Mary…
- And a voice from the cloud said, ‘this is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” (Mt 17:5) — Hail Mary…
- When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces, and were filled with awe. (Mt 17:6) — Hail Mary…
- But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.”(Mt 17:7) — Hail Mary…
- And when they lifted up their eyes, there was no one but Jesus only. (Mt 17:8) — Hail Mary
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE FIFTH LUMINOUS MYSTERY: HIS INSTITUTION OF THE EUCHARIST AS THE SACRAMENTAL EXPRESSION OF THE PASCHAL MYSTERY
A final mystery of light is the institution of the Eucharist, in which Christ offers his body and blood as food under the signs of bread and wine, and testifies “to the end” his love for humanity (Jn 13:1), for whose salvation he will offer himself in sacrifice (Rosarium Virginis Mariae, 21)
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for a deeper faith and love of the real presence of the Holy Eucharist and a strong desire to receive this gift from God into our soul. —Our Father…
- Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. (Jn13:1) — Hail Mary…
- Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. (LK 22:7) — Hail Mary…
- So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us,” (LK 22:8) — Hail Mary…

- “For I tell you I shall not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” (LK 22:16) — Hail Mary…
- And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said “Take this and divide it among yourselves; (LK 22:17) — Hail Mary…
- For I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” (LK 22:18) — Hail Mary…
- And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” (LK 22:19) — Hail Mary…
- And likewise the cup after supper, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”(LK 22:20) — Hail Mary…
- And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. (Mk 14:26) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…

Sing with us, ye seraphim.
Heaven and earth resound the hymn:
Salve, salve, salve, Regina!
THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES
THE FIRST SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE AGONY IN THE GARDEN
Jesus prayed with great intensity and anguish over His impending death. His agony, perhaps, was an inner one; a distress and sadness that the death He was about to undergo, would be suffered in vain for many. Like Jesus, we also face crucial decisions, stress and difficulty, and pain in our daily lives. If we can kneel with Jesus in His agony, He will be there in ours.
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for all those who suffer, physically, and emotionally; all those who are spiritually ill. Let us pray that their agony can be united with that of Jesus, and not lost through despair or resentment. Our Father….
- Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemani; and He began to experience sorrow and distress. (Mt 26:36-37) — Hail Mary…
- Then He said to them, my heart is nearly broken with sorrow. Remain here and stay awake with Me. (Mt 26:38) — Hail Mary…
- He withdrew from them and knelt down and prayed.(Lk 22:41) — Hail Mary…
- Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Still, let it be as You would have it, not as I. (Mt 26:39) — Hail Mary…
- When He returned to His disciples, He found them asleep. He said to Peter, So you could not stay awake with Me for even an hour? Be on guard and pray that you may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing, but nature is weak. (Mt 26:40-42) — Hail Mary…
- In His anguish, He prayed more earnestly. An angel appeared to Him, coming from Heaven to give Him strength. (Lk 22:44,43) — Hail Mary…
- The hour is on us when the Son of Man is to be handed over to the power of evil men. (Mt. 26:45) — Hail Mary…
- While He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived accompanied by a great crowd with swords and clubs. (Mt 26:47) — Hail Mary…
- He immediately went over to Jesus, said to Him, Peace, Rabbi, and embraced Him. (Mt 26: 49) — Hail Mary…
- Jesus answered, Friend, do what you are here for. At that moment they stepped forward to lay hand on Jesus and arrest Him.(Mt 26: 50) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE SECOND SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE SCOURGING AT THE PILLAR
Pilate, disturbed at the meek majesty of his prisoner, had Him scourged at the pillar, though he could not find any fault in Him. Perhaps he simply resented the fact that Jesus had no use for this world, Pilate’s world, and spoke so overwhelmingly for the next world. Which way do we view this world? Can we offer and accept our suffering to God, as Jesus offered His life for us?
Prayer Intention: Let us offer this decade in thanksgiving for the sacrifices made by Our Lord for the love of us. Pray also, in reparation for all the sins of the world inflicted upon the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the indifference to His Mother. Our Father….
- As soon as it was daybreak, the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, reached a decision. They bound Jesus, led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate. Pilate interrogated Him, Are You the King of the Jews? (Mk 15:1-2) — Hail Mary…
- Jesus answered, My Kingdom does not belong to this world. At this, Pilate said to Him, So then You are King? Jesus replied, It is you who say I am a King. The reason I was born, the reason why I came into the world is to testify to the truth. Anyone committed to the truth, hears My voice. (Jn. 18:36-37) — Hail Mary…
- This much only will I say, From now on, the Son of Man will have His seat at the right hand of the Power of God. (Lk 22:69) — Hail Mary…
- So You are the Son of God? They asked in chorus. He answered, “It is You who say that I am.” (Lk. 22: 70) — Hail Mary…
- Pilate’s next move was to take Jesus and have Him scourged. (Jn 19:1) — Hail Mary…
- Despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows. (Is 53:3) — Hail Mary…
- And yet, ours were the sufferings He bore. (Is 53:4) — Hail Mary…
- He was pierced through for our faults, crushed for our sins. (Is 53:5) — Hail Mary…
- They blindfolded Him, slapped Him and then taunted Him. (Lk 23: 64) — Hail Mary…
- And after He had Jesus scourged, Pilate handed Him over to be crucified. (Mk. 15: 15) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE THIRD SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE CROWNING OF THORNS
The coronation, offered to Jesus by the world, was a crown of thorns. How do we crown Him now? Do we deny Him, or simply show indifference? Do we truly seek Him out?
Prayer Intention: Let us offer this decade for all people who suffer under oppression and persecution and those who suffer humiliation and rejection. And we pray in reparation to God for the sins of the world, the thorns of the crown. Our Father…
- The soldiers now led Jesus away into the hall known as the Praetorium; at the time they assembled the whole cohort. (Mk15:16) — Hail Mary…
- They dressed Him in royal purple, then wove a crown of thorns and put it on Him. (Mk 15:17) — Hail Mary…
- They began to salute Him, All hail! King of the Jews! (Mk. 15: 18) — Hail Mary…
- Continually striking Jesus on the head with a reed and spitting at Him, they genuflected before Him and pretended to pay Him homage. (Mk 15:19) — Hail Mary…
- Pilate said to the crowd: Observe what I do. I am going to bring Him out to you to make you realize that I find no case against Him. (Jn 19:4) — Hail Mary…
- When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple cloak, Pilate said to them, Look at the Man! (Jn 19:5) — Hail Mary…
- As soon as the chief priests and the temple guards saw Him they shouted, Crucify Him! Crucify Him! (Jn 19:6) — Hail Mary…
- “Why, what crime has He committed?” asked Pilate. They only shouted the louder, “Crucify Him!” (Mk 15:14) — Hail Mary…
- Pilate said to the Jews, Look at your King. (Jn 19:14) — Hail Mary…
- In the end, Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified. (Jn. 19: 16) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE FOURTH SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE CARRYING OF THE CROSS
The Son of God carries the instrument of His death to the hill of Calvary. Jesus’ carrying of the cross was a fulfillment of His earlier words. Let all who would believe in Me, take up their cross and follow Me. A cross he didn’t have to carry. Neither do we, unless we choose Jesus over Satan and sin.
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for the suffering, the lonely, and the homeless. Let us ask Jesus to give special meaning to the crosses they carry. Our Father….
- When they had finished making a fool of Him, they stripped Jesus of the cloak, dressed Him in His own clothes, and led Him off to crucifixion. (Mt 27:31) — Hail Mary…
- On their way out they met a Cyrenian named Simon. This man they pressed into service to carry the cross. (Mt 23:27) — Hail Mary…

- Two others who were criminals were led along with Him to be crucified (Lk. 23: 32) — Hail Mary…
- Upon arriving at the site called Golgotha, (a name which means Skull Place), they gave Him a drink of wine flavored with gall, which He tasted but refused to drink. (Mt. 27: 33-34) — Hail Mary…
- When they had crucified Him, they divided His clothes among them by casting lots; then they sat down there and kept watch over Him. (Mt 27:35-36) — Hail Mary…
- Whoever wishes to be My follower must deny his very self. (Lk 9:23) — Hail Mary…
- He must take up his cross every day and follow in My steps. (Lk 9:23) — Hail Mary…
- Whoever would save his life will lose it, whoever loses his life for My sake, will save it. (Lk. 9: 24) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE FIFTH SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE CRUCIFIXION
Jesus died on the cross. With it came our redemption, our salvation. Before His final breath, He gave the world His Mother, and gave Her a role in the salvation of all mankind by making us all, Her children. Just as She was there, at the foot of the cross, She asks us to pray at the foot of the cross. In this meditation, is our salvation.
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for forgiveness and as Jesus forgave us on the cross, let us pray for the grace to forgive others. Let us give all our past pain to Jesus. It is why He is on the cross. Our Father…
- Jesus said, Father, forgive them, they do not know what they are doing. (Lk. 23: 32) — Hail Mary…
- One of the criminals said: Jesus, remember me when You enter upon Your reign. And Jesus replied, I assure you; this day you will be with Me in paradise. (Lk 23:42-43) — Hail Mary…
- Seeing His Mother there with the disciple whom He loved, Jesus said to His Mother, “Woman, there is your Son.” (Jn 19:26) — Hail Mary…
- In turn He said to the disciple, “There is your Mother.” From that hour onward, the disciples took Her into his care. (Jn 19:27) — Hail Mary…
- Then toward mid-afternoon, Jesus cried out in a loud tone, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? (Mt 27:46) — Hail Mary…
- Jesus realizing that everything was now finished, said to fulfill the Scriptures, I am thirsty. There was a jar there, full of common wine. They stuck a sponge soaked in this wine on a stick, and raised it to His lips. (Jn 19:28) — Hail Mary…
- When Jesus took the wine, He said, “Now it is finished.” (Jn 19:30) — Hail Mary…
- Jesus uttered a loud cry and said, “Father, into Your hands I commend My spirit.” After He said this, he expired. (Lk 23:46) — Hail Mary…

Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…

SONG: HAIL MARY GENTLE WOMAN
Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with you,
Blessed are you among women
And blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners now
And at the hour of our death
Amen
Gentle woman, quiet light
Morning Star, so strong and bright.
Blessed Mother, peaceful dove
Teach us wisdom, teach us love.
You were chosen by the Father,
You were chosen by the Son
You were chosen from all women
And for women peaceful one.
Gentle woman, quiet light
Morning Star, so strong and bright.
Blessed Mother, peaceful dove
Teach us wisdom, teach us love.
Blessed are you among women,
Blest in turn all women, too.
Blessed they with peaceful spirits.
Blessed they with gentle hearts.
Gentle woman, quiet light
Morning Star, so strong and bright.
Blessed Mother, peaceful dove
Teach us wisdom, teach us love.
THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES
THE FIRST GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE RESURRECTION
Jesus rose from the dead. With it He conquered death, defeated Satan, sin, and the world, and gave new life to mankind. The joy of the risen Christ is greater than pain. The hope that comes from His resurrection is the victory over our won fear of dying.
Prayer Intention: Let us pray in thanksgiving and in praise, giving glory to the risen Lord. Let us offer to the Triumphant Prince of Peace, all those in despair, those who have lost hope, lost faith; that in the Resurrection of Jesus will be their own future. THE SECOND GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE ASCENSION
He goes to prepare a place for us, and has returned to The Father, in heaven. And He has promised: Where I am, you can be too. Through His ascension, He has shown us a preview of our life hereafter. The Good Shepherd guides us through the valley of darkness.
Prayer Intention: Let us pray for direction; direction in our lives and for all those who have lost the way; that they may turn back to God. Let us pray that we might give direction to the children in the world, that Jesus may become their first priority. Our Father….
- Jesus led His disciples out near Bethany, and with hand upraised, blessed them. (Lk. 24:50) — Hail Mary…

THE THIRD GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Before His Ascension, Jesus had said to His apostles not to leave Jerusalem, because the Paraclete will come. The Spirit of God descended upon the apostles. They were empowered with the special gifts of God, to carry on the Lord’s work of redemption. With them, were Mary, and the other women, praying with the infant Church. She has never ceased to pray for us and the Church.
Prayer Intention: Let us offer these prayers for our own Pentecost, an increase in the Holy Spirit’s gifts to us. We pray for a deeper faith, and trust in God; for a complete submission to the will of God. Let us pray especially for gifts to the young, that they may be able to stand up to the deception Satan brings to their daily activities. Our Father….
- Jesus said, I will ask the Father and He will give you another Paraclete, to be with you always. (Jn 14:16) — Hail Mary…
- The Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will instruct you in everything, and remind you of all that I told you.(Jn 14:26) — Hail Mary…
- Within a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:5) — Hail Mary…
- You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes down on you; then you are to be My witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea….and even to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8) — Hail Mary…
- When the day of Pentecost came they found them gathered in one place. Suddenly from up in the sky there came a noise like a strong driving wind, which was heard all through the house. (Acts 2:1-2) — Hail Mary…
- Tongues of fire appeared, which parted and came to rest on each of them. All were filled with the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:3) — Hail Mary…
- They began to express themselves in foreign tongues and make bold proclamation as the Spirit prompted them. (Acts 2:4) — Hail Mary…
- Staying in Jerusalem at the time were devout men of every nation. These heard the sound, and assembled in a large crowd. They were confused because each heard the disciples speaking in his own language. (Acts 2:5-6) — Hail Mary…
- Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them, “You must reform and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, that your sins may be forgiven; then you will receive the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38) — Hail Mary…
- Those who accepted His message were baptized; some three thousand were added that day. (Acts 2:41) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria…
THE FOURTH GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE ASSUMPTION
Mary is assumed body and soul into heaven and reunited with Her Son, Jesus. Through Her assumption, Mary became the reflection of Her risen Son. She is also the model of the perfection to which we are called.
Prayer Intention: Here let us ask Mary to especially pray with us for the souls in purgatory; that She might join with us in intercession for those who can no longer help themselves. Let us pray especially for the souls forgotten, who have no one to remember them. Our Father….
- The Lord God said to the serpent: I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers. (Gen 3:15) — Hail Mary…
- He will strike at your head, while you strike at His heel. (Gen 3:15) — Hail Mary…
- A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under Her feet, and on Her head a crown of twelve stars. (Rev 12:1) — Hail Mary…
- Father, all those You gave Me, I would have in My company where I am. (Jn. 17:24) — Hail Mary…
- Wherefore She is our Mother in the order of grace. (Lumen Gentium, 61) — Hail Mary…
- Taken up to heaven, She did not lay aside this salvific duty, but by Her intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation. (Lumen Gentium, 62) — Hail Mary…
- For He has looked upon His servant in Her lowliness. (Lk 1:48) — Hail Mary…
- All ages to come shall call Me blessed. (Lk 1:48) — Hail Mary…
- Those who love Me I also love, and those who seek Me find me… He who finds me finds life, and wins favor from the Lord. (Prov 8:17-35) — Hail Mary…
- Come then my love. My lovely one come. (Song 2:10) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Ave Maria …
THE FIFTH GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE CORONATION OF MARY
Mary is crowned Queen of the angels and saints in heaven. Queen of the Holy Rosary, Queen of Peace, Queen of Apostles, Queen of Prophets. How many titles have been given to the Mother of the Incarnation of the Word! Her soul magnifies the Lord, all nations shall call her blessed. Her glorious coronation in heaven is our hope.
Prayer Intention: Let us offer this mystery for Mary’s intentions. Her intercession, Her constant appearances, Her role as Mediatrix of graces. Let us pray that Her efforts in our behalf, Her efforts to lead all Her children back to Her Son, will not be impeded. Our Father….
- God Who is mighty; has done great things for me. (Lk 1:49) – Hail Mary…
- My heart overflows with a godly theme; as I sing my ode to the king. (Ps. 45:2) — Hail Mary…

- So now, O children, listen to me; instruction and wisdom do not reject. (Prov. 8:32-33) — Hail Mary…
- The Lord chose Her. He chose Her before She was born. (Lumen Gentium, 56.) — Hail Mary…
- Entirely holy, and free from all stain of sin. (Lumen Gentium, 56) — Hail Mary…
- Freely co-operating in the work of human salvation through faith and obedience. (Lumen Gentium, 56) — Hail Mary…
- Blessed are You, daughter, by the Most High God, above all the women on earth. (Jth 13:18) — Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…

THE PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH
Introduction
This prayer to Saint Joseph—spouse of the Virgin Mary, foster father of Jesus, and patron saint of the universal Church—was composed by Pope Leo XIII in his 1889 encyclical, Quamquam pluries. He asked that it be added to the end of the Rosary, especially during the month of October, which is dedicated to the Rosary. It may be said after the customary Salve Regina and concluding prayer, and may also be used to conclude other Marian devotions.
To you, O blessed Joseph,
do we come in our tribulation,
and having implored the help of your most holy Spouse,
we confidently invoke your patronage also.
Through that charity which bound you
to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God
and through the paternal love
with which you embraced the Child Jesus,
we humbly beg you graciously to regard the inheritance
which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood,
and with your power and strength to aid us in our necessities.
O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family,
defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ;
O most loving father, ward off from us
every contagion of error and corrupting influence;
O our most mighty protector, be kind to us
and from heaven assist us in our struggle
with the power of darkness.
As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril,
so now protect God’s Holy Church
from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity;
shield, too, each one of us by your constant protection,
so that, supported by your example and your aid,
we may be able to live piously, to die in holiness,
and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven.
Amen.
SONG: MARY IMMACULATE STAR OF THE MORNING
Mary Immaculate Star of the Morning
Chosen before the creation began,
Destined to bring through the light of your dawning
Conquest of Satan and rescue to man.
Bend from your throne at the voice of our crying
Look to this earth where your footsteps have trod
Stretch out your arms to us living and dying
Mary Immaculate, Mother of God.
We sinners honor your sinless perfection;
Fallen and weak for God’s mercy we plead
Grant us the shield of your mighty protection
Marry Immaculate, Mother of God.
Bend from your throne at the voice of our crying
Look to this earth where your footsteps have trod
Stretch out your arms to us living and dying
Mary Immaculate, Mother of God.
THE CHAPLET OF DIVINE MERCY
OPENING PRAYER: 3 O ’Clock prayer
You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.
O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!
Our Father….
Hail Mary….
Apostle’s Creed….
Then, on the large bead before each decade:
Eternal Father,
I offer you the Body and Blood,
Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son,
Our Lord, Jesus Christ,
in atonement for our sins
and those of the whole world.
On the ten small beads of each decade, say:
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion,
have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Conclude with (Say 3 Times):
Holy God,
Holy Mighty One,
Holy Immortal One,
have mercy on us
and on the whole world.
Closing Prayer
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy.
THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Opening Hymn
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Preparatory Prayer
O Most merciful Lord, * with a contrite heart and penitent spirit * I bow down before Thy divine Majesty. * I adore Thee as my supreme Lord and Master. * I believe in Thee, * I hope in Thee, * I love Thee above all things. * I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, * my only and supreme God. * I firmly resolve to amend my life; * and although I am unworthy to obtain mercy, * yet looking upon Thy holy Cross * I am filled with peace and consolation. * I will, therefore, meditate on Thy sufferings, * and visit the Stations * in company with Thy sorrowful Mother * and my holy Guardian Angel, * to promote Thy honor and to save my soul. * I desire to gain all indulgences granted to this holy exercise * for myself and for the souls in Purgatory. * O Loving Jesus, * inflame my cold heart with Thy love, * that I may perform this devotion as perfectly as possible, * and that I may live and die in union with Thee. Amen.
First Station – Jesus Is Condemned to Death
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Jesus, the most innocent of beings, is condemned to death, yes, to the shameful death of the cross. In order to remain a friend of Caesar, Pilate delivers Jesus into the hands of His enemies. O fearful crime, to condemn Innocence to death and to displease God in order to please men.
O innocent Jesus, * I have sinned and I am guilty of eternal death; * but that I may Live, * Thou dost gladly accept the unjust sentence of death. * For whom then shall I henceforth live * if not for Thee, my Lord? * If I desire to please men, * I cannot be Thy servant. * Let me, therefore, rather displease the whole world * than not please Thee, O Jesus!
Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory be….
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Through her heart, His sorrow sharing, All His bitter anguish bearing, Now at length the sword had passed.
Were you there when He stood before the Judge?
Were you there when He stood before the Judge?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when He stood before the Judge?
Second Station – Jesus Carries His Cross
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
When our divine Redeemer beheld the Cross, He most willingly reached out to it with His bleeding arms. He embraced it lovingly, kissed it tenderly, took it on His bruised shoulders, and, exhausted as He was, He carried it joyfully.
O my Jesus, * I cannot be Thy friend and follower * if I refuse to carry my cross. * O beloved cross, * I embrace Thee, * I kiss Thee, * I joyfully accept Thee from the hand of my God. * Far be it from me to glory in anything * save in the Cross of my Lord and Redeemer. * By it the world shall be crucified to me, * and I to the world, * that I may be Thine forever.
Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. O, how sad and sore distressed Was that Mother, highly blest, Of the sole begotten One!
Were you there when He knelt to take His cross?
Were you there when He knelt to take His cross?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when He knelt to take His cross?
Third Station – Jesus Falls the First Time
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Carrying the Cross, our dear Savior was so weakened with its heavy weight that He fell exhausted to the ground. The Cross was light and sweet to Him, but our sins made it so heavy and hard to carry.
Beloved Jesus, * Thou didst carry the burden and the heavy weight of my sins. * Should I then not bear in union with Thee * my light burden of suffering, * and accept the sweet yoke of Thy commandments? * Thy yoke is sweet and Thy burden is light. * I willingly accept it. * I will take up my cross and follow Thee.
Our Father… Hail Mary…Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Christ above in torment hands: She beneath beholds the pangs of her dying glorious Son.
Were you there when He fell beneath His cross?
Were you there when He fell beneath His cross?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when He fell beneath His cross?
Fourth Station – Jesus Meets His Blessed Mother
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
How sad and how painful must it have been for Mary to behold her beloved Son laden with the Cross, covered with wounds and blood, and driven through the streets by savage executioners! What unspeakable pangs her most tender heart must have experienced! How earnestly did she desire to die instead of Jesus, or at least with Him!
O Jesus, * O Mary, * I am the cause of the pains that pierced your hearts. * Would that my heart might experience some of your sufferings. * O Mother, * let me share in thy sufferings and those of they Son, * that I may obtain the grace of a happy death.
Our Father… Hail Mary…Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Is there one who would not weep, Whelmed in miseries so deep, Christ’s dear Mother to behold?
Were you there when sweet Mary faced her Son?
Were you there when sweet Mary faced her Son?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when sweet Mary faced her Son?
Fifth Station – Simon of Cyrene Helps Jesus Carry His Cross
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Simon of Cyrene was forced to help our exhausted Savior carry His Cross. How pleased would Jesus have been, had Simon offered his services of his own accord? However, Simon was not invited by Christ as you are. He says: “Take up your cross and follow Me.” Nevertheless you recoil, and carry it grudgingly.
O Jesus, * whosoever does not take up his cross and follow Thee, * is not worthy of Thee. * Behold, I cheerfully join Thee on the way of the cross. * I desire to carry it with all patience until death, * that I may prove worthy of Thee.
Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Can the human heart refrain from partaking in her pain, in that Mother’s pain untold?
Were you there when they forced a stranger’s help?
Were you there when they forced a stranger’s help?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they forced a stranger’s help?
Sixth Station – Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Moved by compassion, Veronica presents her veil to Jesus, to wipe His disfigured face. He imprints on it His holy countenance, and returns it to her as a recompense. Shall Christ reward you in like manner? Then you too must do Him a service. But you do a service to Christ every time you perform a work of mercy towards your neighbor: for He says: “What you have done to the least of My brethren, you have done to Me.”
Dearest Jesus, * what return shall I make Thee for all Thy benefits? * Behold, I consecrate myself entirely to Thy service. * My whole heart I give to Thee; * stamp on it Thy holy image, * that I may never forget Thee.
Our Father…Hail Mary… Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Bruised, derided, cursed, defiled, She beheld her tender Child, All with bloody scourges rent.
Were you there when the woman wiped His face?
Were you there when the woman wiped His face?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when the woman wiped His face?
Seventh Station – Jesus Falls the Second Time
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Overwhelmed by the weight of the Cross, Jesus falls again to the ground. But the cruel executioners do not permit Him to rest a moment. With thrusts and blows they urge Him onward. With what cruelty Jesus in treated and trampled under foot! Remember, compassionate soul, that your sins caused Jesus this painful fall.
Have mercy on me, O Jesus, * and help me never to fall into my former sins. * From this moment I will strive sincerely * never to sin again. * But Thou, O Jesus, strengthen me with Thy grace, * that I may faithfully carry out my resolution.
Our Father… Hail Mary…Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. For the sins of His own nation, Saw Him hang in desolation Till His spirit forth He sent.
Were you there when He fell the second time?
Were you there when He fell the second time?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when He fell the second time?
Eighth Station – Jesus Speaks to the Women of Jerusalem
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Moved by compassion, these devoted women weep over our suffering Savior. But He turns to them and says: “Weep not for Me, but weep for yourselves and your children. Weep for your sins and those of your children; for they are the cause of My suffering.” You also must weep over your sins, for there is nothing more pleasing to our Lord and more useful to yourself than the tears you shed out of contrition for your sins.
O Jesus, * who shall give my eyes a torrent of tears, * that I may day and night weep over my sins? * I beseech Thee by Thy bitter and bloody tears * to move my heart, * so that tears may flow in abundance from my eyes, * and that I may weep over Thy sufferings * and over my sins until death.
Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. O thou Mother: font of love! Touch my spirit from above, Make my heart with thine accord.
Were you there when the woman wept for Him?
Were you there when the woman wept for Him?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when the woman wept for Him?
Ninth Station – Jesus Falls the Third Time
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Exhausted at the foot of Calvary, Jesus falls for the third time to the ground. How painfully must have been reopened all the wounds of His tender body by these repeated falls. And how enormous must my sins be, to cause Jesus to fall so painfully. Had not Jesus taken my sins upon Himself, they would have plunged me into the abyss of Hell.
Most merciful Jesus, * I return Thee a thousand thanks * for not permitting me to die in my sins * and fall into the abyss of Hell, * as I have deserved so often. * Enkindle in me a sincere desire to amend my life. * Let me never again fall into sin, * but grant me the grace of final perseverance.
Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Make me feel as thou has felt; Make my soul to glow and melt, with the love of Christ my Lord.
Were you there when a third time He fell down?
Were you there when a third time He fell down?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when a third time He fell down?
Tenth Station – Jesus Is Stripped of His Garments
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Arriving on Calvary, Jesus was cruelly deprived of His garments. How painful the stripping must have been, because the garments adhered to His mangled body, so that in removing them parts of the flesh were torn away. Jesus is deprived of His garments that He may die possessed of nothing. How happy shall not I die after laying aside my evil habits and tendencies!
Help me, O Jesus, to amend my life. * Let it be renewed according to Thy will and desire. * However painful the correction may be to me, * I will not spare myself. * With the assistance of Thy grace, * I will refrain from all sinful pleasure and vain amusement, * that I may die happy and live forever.
Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Holy Mother, pierce me through; in my heart each wound renew Of my Savior crucified.
Were you there when they stripped Him of His clothes?
Were you there when they stripped Him of His clothes?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they stripped Him of His clothes?
Eleventh Station – Jesus Is Nailed to the Cross
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Stripped of His garments, Jesus is violently thrown down on the Cross. His hands and His feet are nailed to it in the most cruel way. Jesus remains silent, because it so pleases His heavenly Father. He suffers patiently, because He suffers for you. How do you act in sufferings and trials? How fretful and impatient, how full of complaints are you!
O Jesus, * meek and patient Lamb, * I renounce forever my impatience. * Crucify, O Lord, my flesh, * with its evil desires and vices. * Punish and afflict me in this life, * but spare me in the next. * I resign myself altogether to Thy holy will. * May it be done in all things.
Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Let me share with Thee His pain, who for all my sins was slain, who for me in torment died.
Were you there when they nailed Him to the Cross?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the Cross?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they nailed Him to the Cross?
Twelfth Station – Jesus Dies on the Cross
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Behold Jesus crucified! Behold His wounds received for love of you! His whole appearance betokens love. His head is bent to kiss you. His arms are extended to embrace you. His heart is open to receive you. Oh what love! Jesus dies on the Cross, to preserve you from eternal death.
Most lovable Jesus, * who will grant that I may die for love of Thee? * I will endeavor to die to the world and its vanities * when I behold Thee on the Cross * covered with wounds and crowned with thorns. * Merciful Jesus, * take me into Thy wounded heart, * that I may despise all perishable things, * to live and die for Thee alone.
Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Let me mingle tears with thee, Mourning Him who mourned for me, all the days that I may live.
Were you there when He bowed His head and died?
Were you there when He bowed His head and died?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when He bowed His head and died?
Thirteenth Station – Jesus Is Taken Down From the Cross
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
Jesus did not descend from the Cross, but remained on it till His death. When taken down, He rested on the bosom of His beloved Mother as He had so often done in life. Persevere in your good resolutions, and do not flee from the cross. For he who perseveres till the end shall be saved. Consider, moreover, how pure the heart should be that receives the body and blood of Jesus Christ in the adorable Sacrament of the Altar.
O Lord Jesus crucified! * I most earnestly entreat Thee: * Help me do what is right * and let me not be separated from Thy Cross, * for on it I desire to live and to die. * Create in me, O Lord, a clean heart, * that I may worthily receive Thee in Holy Communion, and that Thou mayest remain in me, * and I in Thee, * for all eternity.
Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. By the cross with thee to stay; There with thee to weep and pray Is all I ask of thee to give.
Were you there when they took Him from the cross?
Were you there when they took Him from the cross?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they took Him from the cross?
Fourteenth Station – Jesus Is Laid in the Tomb
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.
The body of Jesus is laid in a stranger’s tomb. He who in this world has not whereon to rest his head, would have no grave of his own after death. You whose heart is still attached to this world, despise if that you may not perish with it.
Oh Jesus, thou has singled me out from the world, what then shall I seek in it? Thou hast created me for heaven, what then shall I decide upon earth? Depart from me, deceitful world, with thy vanities!! Henceforth I will walk The way of the cross traced out for me by my redeemer, And journey onward To my heavenly home where my rest and my joy shall be forever.
Our father…Hell Mary… Glory be…
V. Lord Jesus, crucified.
R. Have mercy on us. Virgin of all Virgins best, Listen to my fond request; Let me share thy grief divine
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Conclusion
Compassionate Jesus! behold with eyes of mercy this devotion I have endeavored to perform, in honor of Thy bitter passion and death, in order to obtain remission of my sins, and the pains incurred by them. Accept of it for the salvation of the living and the eternal repose of the faithful departed, particularly for those whom I directed it. Do not, my Jesus, suffer the ineffable price of Thy blood to be fruitless, nor my miserable soul ransomed by it, to perish. The voice of Thy blood is louder for mercy than my crimes for vengeance. Have mercy then, O Lord! have mercy, and spare me for Thy mercy’s sake! Amen, Jesus.
Closing Hymn: WE REMEMBER
We remember how You loved us to Your death
And still we celebrate for You are with us here.
And we believe that we will see You when You come
In Your glory, Lord, we remember
We celebrate, we believe.
Here, a million wounded souls
Are yearning just to touch You and be healed
Gather all Your people
And hold them to Your heart.
We remember how You loved us to Your death
And still we celebrate for You are with us here.
And we believe that we will see You when You come
In Your glory, Lord, we remember
We celebrate, we believe.
See the face of Christ revealed
In every person standing by Your side
Gift to one another
And temple of Your love.
We remember how You loved us to Your death
And still we celebrate for You are with us here.
And we believe that we will see You when You come
In Your glory, Lord, we remember
We celebrate, we believe.
THE PRAYER OF EUCHARISTIC CONSECRATION
Lord Jesus Christ,
Bread of Life
True God and True Man,
The Alpha and the Omega,
Truly present – Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity – in the Blessed Sacrament
I consecrate myself to You today without reservation.
Here I am, Lord.
I come to do Your will.
Come and dwell within me.
Heal my body,
focus my mind,
transform my heart,
and nourish my soul,
so that I may represent You faithfully in the many situations
and circumstances of my daily life.
Lord Jesus Christ, truly present in the Eucharist,
I consecrate myself to You today without reservation.
I hold nothing back
I surrender completely and absolutely to Your goodness.
I know the plans You have form me:
Plans for prosperity and well-being.
plans for god and not evil,
plans that give me hope and a future.
Lord Jesus Christ, truly present in the Eucharist,
I consecrate myself to You today without reservation.
I surrender my whole being to Your care.
I surrender my life, my plans, and my very self to You.
I place all that I am at Your feet.
I place all that I have at Your feet.
Take what You want to take and give what You want to give.
Lord Jesus Christ, truly present in the Eucharist,
I consecrate myself to You today without reservation.
Transform me.
Transform my life.
I trust in the eternal genius of Your ways.
I make myself 100 percent available to You.
Lead me, encourage me, challenge me.
Show me how I can collaborate with You,
and I will do what You ask with a joyful heart.
Lord Jesus Christ, truly present in the Eucharist,
I consecrate myself to You today without reservation.
Grant me the grace, wisdom and courage,
to live justly,
love tenderly,
and walk humbly with You, my God,
all the days of my life.
Angels and Saints,
Lead me in the ways of the pilgrim
so that one day I too may share in Heaven.
With His blessing and by His grace,
bestow upon me your humility, generosity, and devotion,
and I implore you to carry this prayer to our Eucharistic Lord.
Mary, Mother of Jesus,
Teach my soul how to receive your Son in the Eucharist,
and how to represent Him in the world.
Teach me the surrender and sacrifice that were necessary
to make the Eucharist possible in this broken world.
Intercede for me an obtain the grace necessary
to allow your Son’s teachings to penetrate
the darkest, coldest, hardest parts of my heart,
so that by receiving Him in the Eucharist
my heart may become ever more like His Eucharist Heart.
Amen.
